About Me

Hi! I’m Kelly but this one guy at work calls me Jail Bunny (check out this blog post to see why). Let me tell you a little bit about myself.¬†First and foremost I am the proud mother of a smart and stubborn maltipoo named Sophie. As you can see from the pictures above she is an adorable ball of fluff. If you ever meet her you will realize that she does strongly believe she is the center of the universe. I also claim my boyfriend’s dog, Cody, and my parents’ puppy, Bandit, as my own fur babies too (if you follow me on Instagram you will see them all). By day I crunch numbers, compose reports, and chase scientists down for missing receipts. However by night I can be found doing a number of activities, such as sleeping, Netflix marathoning, or even on occasion playing softball.

I have been dreaming of running a half marathon for years and now that my 30th birthday is less than a year away I am ready to make this dream a reality. Now here’s the catch about a year and half ago I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, which is an autoimmune disorder where the body attacks the thyroid. I never realized how much my thyroid did until it stopped working properly. Just like any other healthy person going from barely being able to run a mile to running 13.1 miles will be a challenge, which will require dedicated¬†training. However, unlike the healthy person I will have a few more hurdles to overcome throughout my training.

I know what you are thinking. How does a title such as ‘The Hangry Waffle’ tie into training for a half marathon while overcoming Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis? Well, as you can see from my brainstorming text conversation with my Boo hanger, waffles, and Hashimoto’s all go together (training for a half marathon on the other hand is on a whole nother¬†level).

Obviously I am joking. When deciding on a title for my blog I wanted something attention getting that would be hard to forget. While my title doesn’t scream “This is a blog about getting into shape while suffering from an autoimmune disorder” I am hoping that it does catch your eye and make you curious enough to check out my blog. Now here is hoping that the rest of my content is good enough to keep you coming back for more.
